Concurrent Care Announcements

In April 2011, the state of Kansas posted an update to their state hospice provider manual, which indicated that there had been a change in policy for individuals under 21 reimbursed by Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program may receive hospice services and curative treatment concurrently. The manual specifies that the Affordable Care Act does not change the criteria to receive hospice services and indicates that the 210-day-per-lifetime hospice limitation does not apply to hospice patients between the ages of 0 and 20. The header for this section is titled, “Hospice Care for Children in Medicaid,” and can be found on page 8-13 of the Kansas Hospice Provider Manual and at 2011_Kansas.
