Concurrent Care Announcements
In February 2011, the state of California Health and Human Services Agency Department of Health Care Services published a policy letter, which outlined Section 2302 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that allows children participating in Medicaid or CHIP to receive hospice services and treatment for their terminal illness concurrently. The announcement stated managed healthcare plans shall implement the policy immediately and that families and members should be fully informed of the availability of hospice care as a covered service. This policy letter is listed as PL 11-004 under the Managed Care Policy Letters section of the California Department of Health Care Services, which can be accessed at 2011_California.
