Concurrent Care Announcements
In March 2013, the District of Columbia released a notice of proposed rule making that established updated standards for District of Columbia Medicaid program for pediatric palliative care and hospice services. The proposed rule allowed for individuals under age 21 to receive concurrent hospice and curative care. The notice emphasized the importance of optimizing the quality of life, minimize suffering, optimizing functionality, and providing opportunities for personal and spiritual growth in children with life-limiting illnesses. Effective August 1, 2012, the District of Columbia Department of Health Care Finance issued a State Plan Amendment (SPA) (Transmittal No. 12-03).
