In July 2010, the State of Illinois General Assembly passed an Act titled the Pediatric Palliative Care Act, which outlined the scope of pediatric life-limiting illness, difficulties in providing pediatric palliative services, and financial implications of providing pediatric palliative programming. Section 15 of the bill outlines a Pediatric Palliative Care pilot program, which would allow a qualifying child under the age of 18 to receive community-based pediatric palliative care while continuing curative treatments for their potentially life-limiting illness.
